It's been almost ten years

It’s been almost ten years since my mom, Joanie, died by suicide. I was 23 years old when she died. Over the past ten years I’ve changed careers, gotten married, had two baby boys and returned to school to get my masters degree in clinical psychology. You have probably heard things about grief. You might be here because someone that you love has died. I know how comforting it can be to know that you are not alone in your grief. I hope that you may find some of that comfort here.

What you’ll find here is my story. I write about my experience growing up with a mother who was mentally ill and who eventually died by suicide. I write about my grief process and my experience once I became a mother to my sons, August and Lewis. I write about the promise I’ve made to myself to break the chain of emotional abuse in my family.
